Review:

Though not capitalising on his early screen  success as much as other rising A-listers of his era, Richard Gere has proven a somewhat more substantial and consistent talent than most of his contemporaries. From his breakthrough role in Terence Malick’s Days of Heaven to his successful forays into the rom-com and thriller genres, he has shown a deft touch in terms of character construction. Always giving his character an extra edge or counter-intuitive dimension, he’s been responsible for several intriguing performances over the years. And while he hasn’t been as prolific as other stars and while the films he has starred in haven’t been universally successful, he’s always managed to bonce back with a sterling turn in a surprisingly impactful film. From his pernicious turn in 1990’s Internal Affairs to his more than competent turn in the smash hit musical Chicago, he ‘s demonstrated more range than most modern stars not to mention the promise of more to come.
