Review:

Making a profound impact on the medium with two of his earliest features, Alien and Blade Runner, Ridely Scott has gone on to have a surprisingly patchy career. While those aforementioned classics were defined by visionary direction and astonishing discipline, it’s those very qualities that the former commercial director has struggled to maintain. It could be argued that Scott is the poster director for what happens when a hungry director becomes sated but there’s also no denying that the quality of his collaborations have never matched those that underlay his sci-fi classics. That’s not to take away from his contribution to those films for coordinating the talents of a variety of artists is never easy and Alien and Blade Runner are certainly testaments to that aspect of the craft. What has remained, however, is his keen sense for transferring visuals from the page to the screen as the deeply flawed Prometheus most recently demonstrated.
